Luaka Bop was asked to put a designer forward to work with Doubleday & Cartwright on posters for The Sai Anantam Ashram Singers performing the music of Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda, presented for the first time in New York City. After a number of directions and syncretizations, we arrived at this beautiful and iconic image, influenced among others by the amazing Black Panther posters of Emory Douglas. I drew all of the parts and then merged and colored them with photoshop. I made the texture by making blank black prints, using a bottle as my press. The poster was used at the show, around New York City, online, and for the Los Angeles iteration of the RBMA festival.
